"Once Upon a Mattress"
Fifth annual LPHS musical coming to WMPAC
The Lone Peak High School Thespian Society will present this comical and musical retelling of the classic fairytale story, “The Princess and the Pea,” in the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on April 5 and 6.
This popular musical explains the back-story of the fairytale and its consequences: An entire kingdom anxiously awaiting a royal marriage so that they can wed as well.
“‘Once Upon A Mattress’ is exactly the kind of story our actors love to tell,” says Producer Barbara Rowley. “Funny, fast-moving, with both silly and beautiful songs and a few dance numbers that push new limits of what our cast has ever done.”
The musical has been adapted for film twice. It is rated G.
Produced and directed by the Big Sky Broadway staff—Barbara Rowley, John Zirkle, Jennifer Waters and Sarah Mitchell—and accompanied by Sean Clifford Carter on piano—the high school-aged cast features many LPHS actors who have nearly a decade of experience in BSB shows from a young age. This includes seven seniors: Anna Alvin, Liam Germain, KP Hoffman, Abi Hogan, Bryn Iskenderian, Carter Johnsen and Evan Redmon, all in lead roles. These seasoned veterans are joined by 15 other local high school players.
Rowley moved the musical schedule up this year (for the past four years it has fallen near Memorial Day weekend in May), in order to accommodate spring sports and in hopes that more people will be in town and able to see the show. Tickets are available at the door, and can also be pre-purchased online at www.warrenmillerpac.org.
