Buz Davis running for tax board
There are two open seats on the Resort Area District board, and now there are at least three candidates running. The latest to file with the county and become a candidate is Paul “Buz” Davis, president and CEO of Davis & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in strategic business alliances, executive coaching and board training for corporations and nonprofits, according to a release from Davis.
Davis reports that he’s well acquainted with the mission and operation of the resort tax board: In 2012 and 2013, he led the board through a strategic planning process.
“The resort tax was established to support infrastructure needs as well as a mechanism to respond to community challenges. I have worked for over 30 years as a collaborator and I think my skills could be of help to the resort tax board and the organizations that it supports,” Davis said.
Davis has been involved with a number of other community engagement initiatives. In 2014, he led the Big Sky Water and Sewer District in a planning retreat. Two years prior, he did the same for Big Sky Community Corporation (now the Big Sky Community Organization). In 2013, he participated in a multi-year effort to bring a hospital to the area, which culminated in the opening of the Big Sky Medical Center in December of 2015.
“He’s deeply committed to this community and wants to make a difference,” said former Resort Board Chair Les Loble.
The other two candidates running for the tax board are Steve Johnson and Sarah Blechta. Along with Davis,
they will vie for seats being vacated by current board members Ginna Hermann
and Heather Budd.
In other local board election news, there are two declared candidates running for the water and sewer district board: Peter Manka and Tom Reeves.
