Determined despite delay

Lady Bighorns reschedule first game due to COVID case

COVID-19 has surfaced as an early obstacle of the 2021 Lady Bighorns Basketball season. Several critical practices were cancelled and the first game will need to be rescheduled due to a positive test result on the team, head coach Taylor Cummings explained.

The Lady Bighorns may be young, small in stature and inexperienced in high pressure situations, but the team’s foundation is solid and continually strengthened by an abundance of talent, good leadership and the drive to improve, she said.

Senior guards Ivy Hicks and Sara Wilson will bring their experience, along with Hicks’ leadership abilities and Sara Wilson’s defensive spark. Junior Carly Wilson, also a guard, brings competitive energy similar to her sister Sara. Sophomores Jessie Bough, point guard; Maddie Cone, 2nd Team All Conference forward and also the strongest presence as a rebounding machine and Kate King, guard will also bolster the Lady Bighorns efforts for a successful season.

Last season’s 8-10 regular season record and 1-2 post season record proved the young Bighorns’ grit when faced with bigger, more experienced teams.

“I am most excited to see all the work they have put in over the past year to improve pay off. I am also excited to watch them grow as a team throughout this season,” she said. “They have put in the work, and now when they are finally able to get on the court and compete I’m excited to see it translate into success for them.”

The goal for the season is to work harder than opponents.

“We can’t control every outcome within a game, but we can always control how we react and our level of effort,” Cummings said. “We also want to execute and force our opponents to adjust to us instead of us adjusting to them.”
