LPHS golf swings its way to clutch comeback at state

Coach Jenny Wilcynski and her Big Horn golfers finished the first day of competition at the class C state finals determined to do better and on the second day, Wilcynski’s team delivered. Playing the scenic course at Fairmont Hot Springs, both the boys’ and girls’ teams mounted a day-two surge.

Lyli McCarthy dropped her second day score by 10 shots and Sarah Maynard dropped hers by 11. This closed the gap and put Lone Peak within a couple strokes of moving into second place. The team ended up finishing third and Maynard placed ninth overall, earning her all-state honors.

“On the boys’ side, they dropped their score by 27 shots on day two, which was the most for any team,” said Wilcynski, praising all her players for their grit and determination.—DM
