The Big Horn doubles team—KP Hoffman and Solae Swenson—practicing in Big Sky before winning divisionals in Belgrade and then heading to the state finals in Great Falls.

A net win

“Kodi was one match from making it to state.” —Head Coach Joe Gorman

The Lone Peak High School tennis team sent its best doubles pair to the class B-C state finals and ended up placing tenth. KP Hoffman and Solae Swenson were knocked off by a pair from Granite County, but then went on to win two consolation matches, said Assistant Coach Suzanne Schreiner.

Schreiner stepped in to lead the Big Horn campaign in Great Falls after Head Coach Joe Gorman was sidelined with a stomach bug. The loss to Granite was a close one, which was followed by a pair of matches that wowed Schreiner.

“It was fun. It is always fun. Solae and KP played very well. They played the best they ever had,” said Schreiner.

Looking back on the season, Gorman said in addition to the Hoffman-Swenson duo, junior singles player Kodi Boersma was another standout.

“I thought that Kodi played great,” said Gorman, adding, “Kodi was one match from making it to state.”

Looking ahead to the off-season, Schreiner said, “We definitely want to keep these kids playing throughout the summer and into the fall. More hours on the tennis courts will create better tennis athletes.”  —DM
