Track season out of the blocks

At the Manhattan Christian High School Track Invitational on April 28, the Big Horn team set up its school-spirited shade structure and got down to business early, with Lone Peak junior Cody Clack competing in the 3,200 meter race.

“He’s a hard worker. Dedicated toward this and enjoys running,” said Head Coach Dave Brekke as he watched Clack circle the track at Bozeman High School’s Van Winkle Stadium. Manhattan Christian would go on to dominate the meet, but in the 3,200 MCH fell to Bryce Love from cross-pasture rival Manhattan High School.

Lone Peak’s Clack shaved a minute and a half off his last time, but was not among the top finishers. He decided to wear a watch and credited that move with allowing him to finish strong.

“I was able to conserve myself more for the final lap. And I tried to haul it at the end,” explained Clack while still trying to catch his breath. Teammate Tracen O’Connor approached and congratulated Clack on his speed down the stretch.

“That last 100 meter sprint was incredible,” said O’Connor. “Working hard!” —DM
