World Press Freedom Day
It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1993 and since then, May 3, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek (a statement of press freedom principles put together by African newspaper journalists in 1991), is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day. The Committee to Protect Journalists reports in the first four months of 2018, 19 journalists world-wide have been killed in the line of duty.
