Spreading positivity amidst a pandemic

Rotary Club of Big Sky helps local employees with gift cards

The American Legion Post 99’s effort to bolster local businesses and help locals by purchasing gift cards inspired others. Rotary Club of Big Sky (Rotary) asked employers to submit names of employees who worked during the COVID-19 quarantine the first month the pandemic hit.

Seventeen employers submitted 165 names. Fifty-eight individuals were randomly selected to receive gift cards purchased with $1,700 donated by individual community members and $850 added by Rotary, according to Rotary President Laura Seyfang.

“Amazingly there was at least one employee drawn from each employer,” she said.

Employees from restaurants, grocery stores, the post office, the medical center, a child care center and gas stations received gift cards.

Many recipients of the gift cards expressed appreciation for the community’s support and Rotary’s effort.
