Music in the mountains series returns

Big Sky concert series returns July 3

It’s back.

After a year hiatus and a year we would all like to forget, the Music in the Mountains concert series returns. No one was more thrilled for the community than Executive Director of the Arts Council of Big Sky, Brian Hurlbut.

“Obviously we’re super excited. I think not having concerts last year really drove the point home of how important the concerts are to the community,” Hurlbut said.

For the Arts Council of Big Sky, the arrival of this year’s concert series is just as important. “The concert series is the Arts Council’s most visible event, and it really puts us out in the community. Therefore we really missed being out in front of everyone last year and showing them what we do,” Hurlbut said.

This year’s lineup was announced on Thursday, June 10, at the local bar tips up in the Big sky town Center.

The bar was filled to the brim with community members eager to truly kick off the summer season. The announcement celebration included a live performance from the band Dead sky, a Grateful Dead tribute band based out of Bozeman, who are repeat performers in the music in the mountains series.

The lineup begins with a special performance on July 3 from steep Canyon Rangers, and on July 4 from The Tiny Band. From there, the concert series continues from July 8 through September 9, every Thursday.

The first concert at the new and improved stage in the Big Sky Town Center might have to wait a couple of weeks, however.

“Our plan is to have the first concert at the park on July 15,” Hurlbut said. In the meantime, the first three concerts will be held in the event area outside of The Wilson Hotel in the Big Sky Town Center. The concerts will start at 7 p.m. and will typically continue to 10 p.m.
